Mark 8:36-37 “36. What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose His own soul. 37.Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”
Firstly, let’s bring these words to human terms so all can understand;
In practicality, the above scripture means “What shall it profit a man to gain the whole world (position, control, desires, materialism and lust thereof) and lose His soul (your understanding, your intellect, your free will, your cognitive ability, your emotional touch, your ability to love, to have relationships, your mind, your mental health, your stability, your intelligence).”
Your soul is worth more than millions, it is the most precious jewel of all. The things of this world are no match for it. It is much weightier than gold, costlier than diamond. It gets corrupted by the former (the things of this world) but renewed by the word of life.
The word of God is food for the soul, re-establishing its unique ability to love, to show mercy, to hold faith, to garner wisdom, understanding and knowledge of a higher life.
It (the living word) revitalizes your very essence (your inherent nature) adorning you to become more costlier than gold, weightier than this world, more precious than diamond, a hidden gem in a world of decay, a carrier of the word, a carrier of wisdom, a carrier of understanding, a carrier of virtue, a carrier of the most high God, a magnet for good tidings, a revealer of life.
“Let the word of Christ dwell richly in you that you may bear good fruit” – Colossians 3:16
